MANSFIELD – Superintendent Teresa Murphy is pleased to announce that assistant football coach Mark DeGirolamo has been selected by the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) as Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Assistant Coach of the Year award is presented to an assistant coach who has demonstrated a great passion for the game of football and positively impacted their players for a minimum of 15 years.
DeGirolamo, a long-time Mansfield resident, began his career at Qualters Middle School in 2003 where he served as a science teacher. In 2004, he began his role as assistant offensive line and linebackers coach.
He currently serves as defensive coordinator for the Mansfield varsity football team. DeGirolamo also leads the Strength and Conditioning Program for Mansfield football and organizes leadership seminars for players.
Throughout his 20-year career, DeGirolamo has helped lead various teams to State Championships including the 2004, 2010, 2013 and 2019 Mansfield High School varsity football teams.
Additionally, he has assisted the program in winning 12 Hockomock League Championships in the 2004-07, 2010-13, 2018-20 and 2022 seasons.
Prior to his role as Mansfield High School assistant football coach, DeGirolamo volunteered as a Mansfield Youth Football Coach for seven years.
In addition to coaching junior varsity and varsity football, DeGirolamo has served as an assistant coach for the Mansfield Boy’s lacrosse program and as a youth lacrosse coach for the Mansfield Youth Lacrosse Program.
DeGirolamo is a 1990 graduate of Mansfield High School. During his high school career, he served as a senior team captain for the football team and was inducted into the Mansfield Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
DeGirolamo’s wife Tara currently serves as a math teacher at Qualters Middle School and as the Mansfield High School volleyball varsity head coach. They are the proud parents of Mark Jr., Ryan and Andrew, who have all attended Mansfield High School as student-athletes.
Mark Jr. is a 2022 Mansfield High School graduate and currently plays for the freshman football team at Bridgewater State University. During his time at Mansfield High School, he played football, hockey and lacrosse.
Ryan will graduate Mansfield High School in 2023 and has played for various Mansfield sports teams throughout his high school career, including football, hockey and lacrosse.
Andrew is currently a freshman at Mansfield High School and plays football, basketball and lacrosse.
