MANSFIELD — Superintendent Teresa Murphy reports that due to expected Inclement weather, the Mansfield Public Schools 2023 Special Olympics School Day Games event has been postponed.
Due to expected Inclement weather, the Mansfield Public Schools 2023 Special Olympics School Day Games will now take place on Monday, June 12 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Mansfield High School Alumni Field, 250 East St.
Mansfield Public Schools students from kindergarten through high school will participate in a series of Special Olympics School Day Games throughout the event.
The events will include Bocce, cornhole, Tic-tac-toe, long jump, javelin, a softball throw, a cone relay race, and a wheelchair-assisted 100-meter walk/run. There will also be a station to take photos, a quiet games station, a snack station, and a special treat for all athletes, student volunteers and staff involved in the event. Lunch will be included for athletes, student volunteers, and staff involved.
About 55 students are expected to participate. Families, staff and students district-wide as well as alumni Special Olympics athletes are also invited to attend the event to support of student-athletes. The event is closed to the general public.
The third annual Special Olympics School Day Games is coordinated by the Mansfield Public Schools Special Education Department.
“Mansfield is thrilled to be able to host such a wonderful event for our student-athletes, their families, their peers and staff,” said Special Education Teacher and Best Buddies Co-Advisor Christine Riley. “We are excited for our athletes to take the field and give it their all.”
The event will also feature a pre-games rally, torch ceremony, coach and athlete’s oath, and medal ceremony.
