MANSFIELD — Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Principal Russ Booth are pleased to announce that 2023 graduate Drew Sacco recently received the USA Lacrosse All-American Award.
Sacco was awarded All-American status on Tuesday, June 13.
Each year, USA Lacrosse sponsors three awards intended to recognize athletic excellence, academic excellence, and service to the community. The USA Lacrosse All-American Award is presented to an athlete who exhibits superior skills and techniques and possesses exceptional game sense and knowledge. A USA Lacrosse All-American is recognized as one of the best players in their respective area of the country, and who also embodies excellent sportsmanship.
Sacco was a member of the Mansfield High School Boys’ Varsity lacrosse team for four years, serving as captain his senior year. During his senior season, he recorded 51 goals, 32 assists, 83 points, 107 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers while positioned as attack.
“I want to congratulate Drew Sacco for this outstanding honor,” said Principal Russ Booth. “While playing lacrosse for Mansfield High School, Drew exhibited impressive skills and a strong sense of sportsmanship both on and off the field.”
Sacco took several Advanced Placement classes throughout his high school career and was named salutatorian for the graduating class of 2023.
Additionally, Sacco played four years of football while attending Mansfield High School. During this time, he was named Student-Athlete of the Month by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Sacco has earned the Tom Souza Scholar-Athlete Award, presented by the Gridiron Club for academic excellence, leadership and community service. Additionally, Sacco is a three-time recipient of the Mansfield High School Golden Hornet Award. He also has received the World Language Department Academic Excellence Award and the Yale Book Award.
He will be attending the Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in geosciences.
