MANSFIELD — Superintendent Teresa Murphy is pleased to announce that Timothy Tichacek has been named the new Interim Principal of Mansfield High School.
Principal Tichacek assumed the role on Monday, Nov. 29. He joined the Mansfield Public Schools on July 1, 2016 when he was named Assistant Principal of MHS, a position he held until being promoted to the new position. He will serve as Interim Principal through the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.
He replaces Principal Mary Watkins, who has accepted a Director/Superintendent position at the Davies Career and Technical School in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
During his time at MHS, Principal Tichacek helped bring Unified Sports (track and basketball) to Mansfield, was a co-leader of the Mansfield Public Schools Mentoring and Induction Program for new teachers for the past three years, and participated in the Soul of Leadership yearlong personal and leadership renewal program for K-12 leaders sponsored by the Massachusetts School Administrators Association.
He served on the district’s Wellness Committee and planned the Wellness Fair in 2019. He also worked with the Mansfield Police Department and district wellness department to provide 4L training to all students and staff.
Prior to his time at MHS, Principal Tichacek was a Special Education teacher in the Dighton-Rehoboth School District and a Special Education teacher at Gateway Regional High School in Huntington.
Principal Tichacek lives in Raynham with his wife and two children.
“Mansfield is one of those towns that attracts families because of our school system, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead Mansfield High and the incredible students and families we serve,” Principal Tichacek said. “I want to thank the school and district administrators for giving me this opportunity, and especially Principal Watkins for all she has done for MHS and for me personally over the years. Over the past few months I have had the chance to reflect upon Mary’s time here and I am just amazed by what she has been able to accomplish during her time at MHS, and I will do my best to follow in her footsteps.”
Principal Watkins was recognized for her work in Mansfield at the Nov. 16 School Committee meeting, where she expressed her appreciation and sincere thanks to the district leadership and committee. School committee Chair Kiera O’Neil presented her with a gift of appreciation at the meeting.
Principal Watkins joined the district as a teacher in the Social Studies department in 2003, and assumed the roles of Assistant Principal and Associate Principal before being named Principal in 2017.
With Principal Tichacek vacating the role of MHS Assistant Principal, the district has welcomed back Matthew McGuire to fill the role on an interim basis. Interim Assistant Principal McGuire left MHS in June 2021 for an Assistant Principal position at King Phillip Regional High School. Prior to that, he was the Performing Arts Department Chair, Band Director and teacher in Mansfield.
“On behalf of the entire Mansfield Public Schools and the MHS community, I am excited to welcome Principal Tichacek to this new role. We know he will bring enthusiasm and expertise to the position for the remainder of the school year,” Superintendent Murphy said. “I also want to welcome Assistant Principal McGuire back to Mansfield, and wish Principal Watkins the best as she leaves Mansfield after so many years guiding MHS.”
